Spanish La Liga side Las Palmas have confirmed that Super Eagles of Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has sent a letter of invitation to Oghenekaro Etebo for the friendlies against Poland and Serbia in March.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to play a total of five preparatory matches before the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia in June.
The Super Eagles will take on fellow World Cup participants, Poland and Serbia and Etebo is among the players to prosecute the matches for Nigeria.
A Picture of the Etebo was posted on the clubs Twitter account alongside a statement on the club’s website confirms the midfielders request.
“The UD player Las Palmas, Etebo, has been summoned by Nigeria for the two friendly matches that the African team will play in Poland, in Wroclaw (March 23) and against Serbia in London (March 27)”.
It further states that the club will comply with FIFA’s rules,
“In accordance with the provisions of the FIFA Regulations on the ‘Statute and Transfer of Players’, UD Las Palmas will release the player so that he can travel to Poland, since he must join with his team on Monday, March 19th.
Nigeria Super Eagles have been drawn in a group that has former world champions Argentina,Croatia and Iceland.
Etebo who joined Las Palmas of Spain from Portuguese side Feirense in January has been in super form and has been voted man of the match twice in the two games he has played since joining the club.
Las Palmas are currently placed 18th in the 20 teams Spanish La Liga table
